Tuesday evening in a field

August 24, 2010

Tonight Shawn and I spent the evening in a field.  Not the whole evening, it was more like twenty minutes.  It just felt like the whole evening, for Shawn anyway!  We were eaten alive, my hives got really bad, and we left with those sticky things that attached to our clothes.  Not to worry though, we ended with a picture for the newspaper and I was able to play with my new camera!  Using a tripod and running into the picture just is not the same as a photo shoot, but it helped my urge a little!

Since my camera was on a tripod and I was running back and forth in tall grass to get in the picture, a few of the pictures were out of focus and I was a sweaty mess.  Guess what?  They are ended up as my favorite, but I’ll spare you.

This one isn’t in focus either, but I’ll share one. ;)

And I’ll leave you with the one that will go in the newspaper.  Shawn requested black and white.

Our Save the Dates

August 15, 2010

I wanted to be different.  Sure, I love those magnets people send with their cute engagement pictures!   I’m a photographer, so the whole photo magnet thing would be a bit too predictable for me to do!  I love to get creative so making this type of thing for the wedding is right up my alley.  I wanted our Save the Dates to look festive for New Year’s Eve, as well as the wedding, and be unlike anything I have ever seen.  “Unlike anything I have ever seen” meant I was able to create it myself. I got my inspiration from Wordle, which I have used for other various things.  I didn’t use the website to create my image because words weren’t placed where I wanted them.  So I did it myself.  There were times I would step away from my computer and come back and realize everything was wrong.  With Shawn’s help, I was able to get most of the words where I wanted and I think they ended up turning out great.  Once the image was complete we sent it off to be printed on a postcard.  Of course, I added a little picture of Shawn and I on the back with our wedding website information.  Here is the front…

Oh yeah, go check out our wedding website!  The “About Us” cracks both of us up to tears.  The last line pretty much sums up our life and is a whole new blog post that I’ve been meaning to write forever!!!

Shawn walked in the door and annouced, “there is this special event coming up this year!”  I thought for a millisecond and replied, “your 30th birthday?!”  Then when my head got out of a fog I realized he is only 28 and I am getting married in December.  Getting married is the most special of events!

It’s August.  What does that mean?  That means school started for teachers, and on Tuesday I’m back to being “Miss Stasiak” again!  (As someone mentioned, this is my last year of being Miss Stasiak!) I just couldn’t be more excited about everything in my life right now.  A new bunch of kids to meet and love, a growing photography business, and an awesome wedding to plan (not in any particular order!!!).  So August for me means busy!  Seriously,  I feel as though I  could not be busier!!!

Which brings me to this point:

I want to stay creative with teaching, photography…and wedding planning!  What this all means for me is I need to take a deep breath and just limit how many shoots I do in the fall.  I don’t really know a number in my head, but I’m hoping it comes to me!  I do have a few dates on the calendar but I am not booked up.  I want to keep shooting seniors especially, because I have loved all of my high school seniors this year!  Families, if you are thinking about booking in the fall for Christmas cards (yes, seriously Christmas is way closer than we think!) then let’s put a date on the calendar.  Really, let’s plan on a date.

I’m in love with how my senior rep cards have been turning out!  It feels funny sending out “Katie Stasiak” cards when I’ll soon be “Katie McCaw” but I have so many new ideas for Katie McCaw!

I can’t sleep.  This is my first moment of, “Ohmigosh, am I going to get everything finished in time for my wedding?!”.

A few weeks ago, I told my bridesmaids to be creative about what accessories they wear to the wedding.  I want them to have fun with it, look festive for New Years Eve, and “let their personality shine through!”.   That night I had dream that all my bridesmaids took the word “creative” to a new level.  They showed up with bright yellow plastic plates on their heads!  I woke up kind of amused and told a few people about it.  I didn’t think the dream meant anything because everything has been going smoothly.  I haven’t been stressed about the wedding and when people ask, I tell them, “The planning is going great!”.  And everything is.  Except for tonight I drank coffee.

So tonight it is a different story.

Tonight I was in bed thinking to myself that I ordered the wrong veil.  I didn’t think I was going to wear one…now I want one…and not the one I ordered.  Tonight all these small random things kept popping in my mind.  Addresses, invitations, save the dates, shoes, veil, tuxes, hotel rooms, accommodations, sparklers, garter, hair thingy, oh me oh my–my list goes on.  These little things are really adding up!  Well, tonight they are.

Every other night, I take one thing at a time and cross it off my list.

So tomorrow morning I will cross off “invitations”, because I just created them.  Then I will cross off my “Save the Dates”, because I decided not to be so nit picky and just get them printed.  People won’t care about what kind of paper I use.  I will, but they won’t.  The photographer in me is screaming at that choice…but the bride in me just wants to cross it off.  I will cross off three things tomorrow.  Not sure what else, but I will do something.  Tomorrow, I will not drink coffee.

Wedding Planning

June 14, 2010

Summer is here and that means wedding planning is in full force!  Planning for your wedding is really not as stressful as everyone tells you it will be.  The key to having fun with wedding planning is do it on your terms and don’t make a big deal out of not so big things!  I’ve been working hard on our wedding website, and last night Shawn and I were up until midnight cracking up at “Our Story”.  I surprised him with a twist on our “About Us” section.  Think Cardinals vs. Cubs.  Not to worry, I will post the site on here when it’s all finished.

When people ask about planning, I tell them all the “big things” are covered.  Photographer, DJ, Florist, Ceremony, Reception, Dress, Bridesmaid Dresses…and the list could go on.  I’m taking one thing at a time and enjoying it as I accomplish the task.  I still need to get a few of the other “big things” out of the way, but I plan on doing that this week and next!  I don’t want to spoil all of the surprises for the wedding but I do want to share our guest book.

I used pictures from our engagement session and ordered an album.  Don’t worry, I left plenty of room for all of our guests and ordered the large book!  I had a coupon for buy one get one free so I have this one on my coffee table and the other one is all packaged up and waiting for the wedding.  I’m glad with the way it turned out!

Reception Hall:  Booked.  (Orlando Gardens off Watson for those that are interested.)

I think booking the hall finally made this whole wedding-business-thingy click.

Last night it finally seemed real.  We’re getting married….on New Years Eve!!!

My crafty side came out and I went to my creative blogs and put in the keywords: “New Years Eve”.

I then found this:

And I jumped up and did a happy dance.  I hyperventilated a little.  Then I called my mom.

“I need 30 vintage clocks!  It’s how we’re going to count down til midnight!”

Yes, it’s true.  Creative Katie has woken up from hibernation.

I have a wedding to plan.  Do you have any clocks?

Things have been a little crazy lately. A lot crazy. Time hasn’t been spent on wedding planning…although we have spent time on it with every spare minute we get. We’re not as far as most might be at this stage. We’re ok with that though. Shawn has already been a huge help, emailing reception places and creating a spread sheet with detailed pricing. He joked that he will do that part and I can do the rest!

Questions we’ve been asked:

When is it?
We’ve decided on New Years Eve! We’re both huge fans of New Years Eve and it just fit our personalities.

How many people?
Probably around 250-300. That number is mostly family…and not the kind of family you only see on Christmas. Seriously, I can’t even begin to describe how many of those 300 are close family members. (I feel another blog post coming on.)

Where?
St. Alban Roe Church
No reception place yet. We need BIG and NOT going to put us in debt. There is no, “Windows on Washington” in our vocabulary.

Colors?
Black, Silver, Gold and all that goes with New Years Eve.

Is it just going to be one big NYE/Wedding party?
That’s our goal!

Who are the bridesmaids?
I have 6 bridesmaids and each one of them are so different. I chose 6 girls who have always supported me, that make me laugh, and are just fun people. I’m so excited! Here is the video I made to ask them:

*I didn’t take all of these pictures, some I took from Facebook, so thanks to those who took some of those pictures. ;)

For all of the other more detailed questions, we haven’t even gone there yet. One person told me I’m ahead of the game, and even if it’s a lie, well it made me feel better. That’s why she’s also a bridesmaid, already making me feel better about things!

My Ring.

January 6, 2010

I’ve had so many people ask me to put some pictures up so they could see my ring.  I’ve gone back and forth with the idea of posting a picture.  I know “everybody does it” on Facebook, I just feel kind of weird.  I don’t know why.  I even wrote this post and then slept on it for a few nights before deciding to just post it on my blog.  I share my world with my blog readers anyway…so here it goes.

Did I pick out the ring?  No. The only thing I told Shawn was I wanted a cushion cut diamond and a solitaire would be just fine for me.  He totally surpassed anything I could have wanted!  It’s elegant, and is something I’m going to love wearing everyday of my life.  Shawn did such a good job, you’ll have to see it in person.  If you can’t tell we’re engaged by my left hand, you can look at BOTH of our faces…we’re pretty smiley these days.

On another note, for those of you that are waiting, our “exciting thing”  is a bit delayed.  My college roommate emailed me and told me she was “blog stalking” waiting for it.  I probably shouldn’t have even mentioned it because now I’m worried about letting everyone down!  The truth is, I realized I didn’t have the software or other equipment needed to make my little project perfect.  My new computer should be here this week so hopefully I’ll be able to get the ball rolling a little bit.
