Jacqueline’s Sneak Peek

March 31, 2010

I am so excited to get back into my favorite kind of photography.  Family, kids, and baby photography!  I was so excited to kick off the season with Jacqueline this afternoon.  Yes, this afternoon!  As soon as I came home I started editing so I could post a few.

Isn’t she gorgeous?  Oh my gosh!  Look at those eyes!

I’m really loving this picture.  I think it’s her expression that I like so much!  She is a doll.

Ok that’s all for now!  It’s just a sneak peek…check back soon for more of this two year old!

Courtney’s Shower

March 29, 2010

I spent Saturday night celebrating Courtney and her soon to be wedding.  You probably remember Courtney…she is the beaming bride-to-be.   We spent the night reliving old memories and catching up on lost time!

I only snapped a few pictures this night!  Some things are best left off the blog anyway! ;)

In case you missed it, Amy is pregnant.  She’s going on her 7th month.  Take a close look at her…I said 7th month!  It doesn’t even look like it in this picture!  Amy surprised everyone and flew in for less than 24 hours…what a sweet friend she is!  It was so good to catch up with old High School buddies and celebrate with Courtney!!!

Ashley, you hosted a cute little party! :)

Side Note:  Whenever I’m with friends I leave my camera at home.  For a few reasons, but the biggest is I just want to relax and the last thing I want to do is worry about my camera.  (Really, these pictures never turn out great anyway.  Lighting, setting, etc.) This can be a good thing or a bad thing either way you look at it.  Although, the other day I noticed I don’t have any pictures of my personal life in albums or even on my computer anymore!  I’m going to work on balancing this out a little bit.  Maybe leave the camera at home only half the time?

Cork Board Bulletin Board

March 28, 2010

I’m a huge fan of Hobby Lobby.  I love almost every aisle there and can never get enough.  My favorite is the clearance aisle because they have a lot of really great things if you can just look past the immediate flaws.  I tend to pick up frames from that aisle a lot.  Random, mismatched, frames that I never know what I’m going to do with.  I started getting quite the collection so I decided to fix them up and make the frames all match for my second bedroom.  My creative room.  My room to relax.  My room for fun stuff.  So fun is what I did.

I turned this really gold frame into…

This!  It just took paint, hot glue, corks, and tacks!  Easy…and fun.

I made the tacks by simply hot gluing metal beads on a thumb tack.

I spray painted all the frames for this room with two different types of paint.  One of which was this glorious new paint I found called “Krylon Oil Rubbed Bronze”.  (I’m going to do amazing things with the bedroom ceiling fans with this paint!)   I painted all the frames with two different types of paint to get a color I just couldn’t find at the store.  I really love the way they turned out.  I have a lot of work to do with the other frames but I’m very excited about my new bulletin board.  I’m going to put invitations and cards on it…and other random things like that turtle picture up there.  I just love it!  If you’re wondering where I got all of those corks my lips are sealed on that one.  No, it wasn’t all me!  Aren’t they so fun though?  I like how it adds some texture to the room.  You’ll get to see the whole room in another post I’m planning for later this week.

A peek into something else I’m working on…

I can’t reveal what it is yet…or what it’s for…but I’m really excited about it!

Josh and Meredith

March 20, 2010

Josh and Meredith

Springfield, Illinois

Josh and Meredith are really happy together.  In every one of their pictures you can feel their love for each other.  They spent their whole day laughing, smiling, and being very happy together! Everything a wedding should be!

Take a look and you’ll see what I mean!

Do you recognize this little guy?

See what I mean about feeling the love?

Meredith is the most laid back and beautiful person!  This has to be my favorite picture of her…it just really captures what she is all about!

Congratulations Josh and Meredith!

View their Slideshow!

You might recognize this song from something else I did awhile back, but I just love the lyrics and I think it fits these two perfectly!

Enjoy!

Peanut Butter

March 18, 2010

(Two doggy posts in a week…sorry, sorry.)

Today’s Spring Break chore included taking Scarlett to the vet.  Scarlett was very good this time so she got a very special treat.

Peanut Butter.

Of course I teased her a little and put it on her nose.

That’s where the fun began.

Over the winter I discovered some really great talent out there in the blogosphere.  My Google Reader is loaded with amazing talent.  Talent I love reading every day after work.  Photographers.  DIYers.  Creatives.

Over the winter I also noticed that my blog has been getting a little more attention, from all over the US!  So, I need to ask:  Who are you?! I want to know!  I want to follow to your blog.  I want to be Internet friends! Seriously though,  email me…twitter me…or just leave a comment.  It would mean a lot to me and I’d love to know who you are!  Speaking of Internet friends, I’m going to start leaving comments for those that I follow!

Happy Adoption Day to Scarlett!  I don’t know Scarlett’s birthday so this is the day she gets a little special attention.  Am I the crazy dog person?  I don’t think so.  When Otis (my old dog) turned 13, I had him wear a big cake hat.  If only I had time to find that picture… let’s just say he put up with me like Scarlett does!  Ok, so maybe I’m a little crazy.

Click here to read why I really wanted Scarlett.   Yes, it was more than those puppy eyes.

Scarlett started her day with a very long walk and she will end her day on the couch, with a bone for dessert.  What more could a dog ask for?

Spring Break is here!  A break that I needed big-time.  I’ve only had Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off but so far here is what happened:

The Good: My new Phone. I have it all set up for email, twitter, pictures, and even emailed Shawn a video of me painting!  Get ready, cyber world… Katie is now living in 2010.

The bad: I brought the fish tank and plants home to care for during the long break.  These fierce fish and plants can survive all day, every day, in my classroom full of 21 first graders.  First day here at my place?  Shawn spills the large plant all over the kitchen floor while transporting it inside.  And me?  I killed Mario the fish!!!!  I feel so bad.  Do I buy one that looks like him?  Or tell the kids the truth?  I never thought I’d be a person to lie about the death of a pet to a kid…but I’m pretty sure I’m going to pick up another 9 cent goldfish and call him Mario.

The ugly: Painting.  I painted all Friday and Saturday.  I ruined a good pair of jeans because I rubbed against a drying wall.  Who would have known that the jeans would be the least of my worries?  Shawn helped Saturday and while it was late at night, he hung in there and even put in my towel rack.  He asked me to go to the outside closet and grab the level.  Well, I pulled out the tool box and what do you know?  I spilled a whole gallon of paint!  Let me repeat:  I SPILLED A WHOLE GALLON OF PAINT. Somewhere between the cursing, the thunderstorm, and the immediate panicking on my part, we got it cleaned up.  Shawn laughed the whole time because everything about my bathroom projects went wrong.  Pictures to come soon!

I’ll be checking in with the blog a lot this week!  So happy to finally have Katie time.  Time to wedding plan, time to catch up, time to clean up, time to craft, time to photograph, time for me!

I get these crazy ideas.  These ideas that I have to do something.  I can’t wait to do whatever it is.  I need to do it and I need to do it now.  Right now.  My idea of the day on Saturday morning was to finally change the lighting in the bathrooms.  I can put in lighting.  I can touch up the paint.  It’s easy!   It only took me three hardware stores, but I bought lighting for both the bathrooms.  First light goes in, no problem.

Next one, not so easy.  After taking down the old fixture, we notice there is a huge hole in my wall.  So big it can’t be covered up with the new light.  I went to my dad’s barn and of course he had something for me to fix it with.  (Phew, didn’t want to go to the hardware store for a fourth time in day!)   Finally back home, and we start to put up the light, after fixing the hole in the wall.  Darnit! The walls are so thick and the fixture is so far back, that the screws don’t fit.  Back to the hardware store, for the fourth time.  So we’re back from the hardware store and the screws?  Still not long enough.  Fifth time back to Home Depot…and we are finally on the right track.  By this time, it’s too dark to see and the flashlight is dead.  Did you know that when I have these ideas I not only have to start them but I have to finish them…right away?!  I let myself put away the project and figured Sunday would be a better day.

So much for Sunday being the day of rest.  The lights ended up being perfectly fine once we had the proper screws.  It was my crafty creative side that got me in trouble.  This new idea I had.   The idea to paint the toilet paper holder and the towel rack.  I’m addicted to these home DIY blogs, and I had read all about this fabulous paint that actually looks like brushed nickel!  I spray it, and walk away.  When I entered the room I almost fainted.  Are you kidding me?!  It looked like straight up spray paint.  What to do now?  Shawn takes a hammer to it and I’m back at Home Depot.  Thank gosh, for Home Depot up the street.

Here is my bathroom before.  I kind of liked it.  In the show Full House, they had those lights and I always wanted my own.  It took me 15 years, but I finally had them.  Maybe a little outdated.  ;)

You’ll notice I write a lot about Shawn but he rarely makes an appearance on the blog.  I can usually only get him in a picture if I hide and snap one really quick.  I’m so thankful that he’s pretty handy and is usually on board with most of my ideas.

The new lights have turned into…new lights, new mirrors, new towel racks, new paint, and while I’m doing all of this, we might as well caulk the showers.  It will look nice once it’s finished but I just added about 20 little projects to my already busy Spring Break!  Good thing I love stuff like this.

Would you wear one?

March 4, 2010

Would you wear this in public?  I think it’s one of those things: Girls love them.  Guys hate them.  (Kind of like the Uggs trend.)

I’m talking about my hair accessory!

I made a bunch of these over the weekend.  Today is Wednesday and I just now got brave enough to wear one.  I want to give one to every girl in my class.  I just don’t know what I’d make for the boys …and that just wouldn’t be fair!

So, would you wear one?  If so, check out this blog and make your own!  She even has a tutorial on how to make a camera strap like the one I have.  I also have to give props to Megan who made some darling little headbands too!  Like I said in a post awhile back, my Google Reader makes me happy.   I love creatives.
